Sticky and sweet. More honey than citrus, more comfort than edge.
Clean and full, it's the kind of cup that keeps you coming back.
The coffee
A Typica worth knowing. This is a washed Typica microlot from Felipe Luzón's farm in Palanda, Ecuador. Typica is one of arabica's oldest varieties, tracing back through Yemen and Java to Ethiopia and in the right hands, in the right place, it still does something special. This is one of those cases.
Origin
Ecuador is just getting started. Better known for cocoa than coffee, with relatively low production volumes and limited exports reaching international markets. That's changing. Zamora-Chinchipe sits in Ecuador's southeastern corner, a mountainous region bordering Peru where conditions are proving well-suited to exceptional microlot coffee.
The farm
Felipe Luzón, Palanda. Felipe farms in Ecuador's Southern Amazon, where he was among the first growers to work with improved Typica varieties. He's been refining his post-harvest processing with technical guidance this harvest, and it shows in the cup.
Process
Washed. Depulped, and dried on raised beds. Clean processing for a clean, expressive coffee.
